Spotlight Shines on a Gem of a Jeweler
Launched in 2002, Ashley Morgan Jewelry is unique because it is “fueled by emotion rather than trends.” Based in San Francisco, Ashley Berman and her husband, Morgan Berman, started the business together and has since watched it fruitfully grow over the last eight years as a result of the love and care they both invested. Ashley was inspired to launch her own collection after finding it hard to discover jewelry that was delicate or simple but also full of meaning. “I wanted to create jewelry that would appeal to people and that was intricate but not gaudy. I felt there were other people in the world who would relate to and appreciate my style of jewelry,” Ashley shares.
Ashley was naturally born with creativity as she has always loved to imagine, create, draw, and sculpt. She uses these innate skills to create her jewelry. What led her to becoming a designer was her passion to communicate life's subtle beauties with enlightened meaning. She did exactly that by using jewelry designing as a way to channel her feelings from traveling to new countries, meeting new people or viewing works of art. She studied Communications at Colorado University and went on to pursue jewelry design at Revere Academy of Jewelry Art. In her travels abroad, she loved India for its vibrant colors and intricacy in every aspect of their culture. She found the beauty of their raw materials, such as the sapphires, to be breathtaking. Ashley also had the opportunity to live in Spain and Portugal for six months. The Spanish floral design in her jewelry was inspired by the beautiful iron gates and architecture with feminine details there.
In sharing her favorites from each category, one her favorites and also one of our Editor’s Picks is the Angel Wing Necklace, which is very important to her. We adore this necklace 
because of its simple yet elegant angle wing that peacefully dangles from a sterling silver chain. The angle wing features intricate details and is the perfect piece to wear everyday. Ashley also creates matching Angel Wing Earrings in sterling silver or gold that are ethereal and elegant. The angel wings are hand carved to display meticulous detail and are simply heaven sent!
While many of her pieces are her favorites, she also adores her eternity band rings and circle of life earrings, which are light and beautiful. Among her bracelets, she is proud of her new French lace cuff with blue topaz. Ideas for her designs are usually drawn from her life experiences. Ashley shares an example in which she found some antique lace that had belonged to her grandmother, to which she incorporated the patterns of the lace into her collection. “The lace was not only beautiful, but it also represented a connection to my family heritage,” she says. Ashley also gets ideas from various objects, like the color or shape of a stone because it influences how she wants to set the piece or what patterns should accent it.
Among her stunning collection of delicate and feminine earrings, the Paisley Diamond Earrings are a must have! Paisley shapes covered with pave diamonds set in white gold dangle from yellow gold French wires. The contrast of the yellow gold ear wires enjoined with the teardrop made of white gold is modern yet romantic. The process behind her collection begins with Ashley sketching ideas of shapes and sizes until the proportions and designs are perfected. She then sculpts her ideas in wax using the ancient wax method which allows her freedom of creativity. Once the wax molds are created, her production team helps produce the pieces, allowing her to put the finishing touches to ensure the “absolute best quality on each and every piece of jewelry.”
Ashley’s style of jewelry is delicate but intricate as she places emphasis on the smallest of details as well as craftsmanship. 
She consciously tries to avoid creating anything that is gaudy or overdone. She loves working with diamonds, topaz, citrines and tourmalines and metals like rose and yellow gold. This year, she has started using more silver in a large part of her collection for its versatility. From her Circle of Life collection, the Divine Eye Necklace is also a popular and modern piece that looks great with just about anything. A circle pendant displays the ancient and classic divine eye to watch over all. The design marries the ancient symbol of the divine eye with the modern motif of the circle of life.
Her collection changes annually, while keeping a few styles as constant pieces. She likes to keep the design of her jewelry the same while changing up the metal, stones, or engravings used in it. Ashley loves to make her jewelry feel unique. A few celebrity clients, like Vanessa Hudgens, Ashlee Simpson, Rashida Jones, Cheryl Hines, and Kimberly Elise are clients of Ashley Morgan Jewelry. Ashley Morgan Jewelry is sold at local boutique and specialty shops, in addition to trunk shows for Bloomingdale’s. In the next five years, she hopes to expand her line to larger retailers and jewelers, as well as expand her custom jewelry design business.
