BRI HANA Jewelry
Delicate Designs Touched By Natural Elegance
Stacey Johnson, founder and designer behind BRI HANA Jewelry, launched her line in early 2011. Hand crafted in the U.S., her collection gracefully mixes nature's beauty with a sleek modern design that is both contemporary and expressive using natural native stones, leather, beads and diamonds. BRI HANA Jewelry is best described as simple, sexy and elegant as the “name evokes beauty, elegance and a certain allure that can only be described as sensual.” Stacey loves working with unadorned natural and sustainable precious stones and metals. She adds, “Nothing is more beautiful than what is found in nature. My goal with design is to make something that will show off those materials in a subtle yet classy way that someone will really enjoy wearing.” Stacey thinks BRI HANA has its own personality that is unique since most of her pieces are delicate and created to accentuate one’s personality rather than steal the show. Each BRI HANA piece is stamped and handcrafted in the U.S., utilizing the finest stones for a raw, natural look in rings, bracelets and necklaces.
In her family, Stacey was always the “artsy” one as she studied painting and other art mediums in school. She grew up traveling Europe quite a bit, spending most of her time in Paris or London as her mother was raised in Paris and has family there. While she has traveled to many countries including Italy, Switzerland and Holland, she will always have a soft spot for the Parisians because she loves their sense of style. Stacey attended the American College for the Applied Arts and Santa Monica College in Los Angeles as an Art Major. Looking at her background, she grew up in a very large French Moroccan family. In addition, all of her aunts, uncles, and cousins are very talented when it comes to fashion and the arts, and Stacey thinks it must be in the family DNA. She has always loved the art of creating and has been designing jewelry for as long as she can remember. Stacey shares, “Jewelry is so wonderful because you can express yourself and wear your art. When I realized I could design my own pieces and get exactly what I wanted from them, wow… my dreams suddenly came true.”
One of our favorite Editor’s Picks is the Sydney Ring, both modern and fun while remaining dainty and simple. This version of a bow and arrow ring is a beautiful piece made of 14k gold with a tiny diamond to accent the arrow’s tip. This wrap ring shows off the fine detail of the “bow and arrow” design while its thin band makes it so comfortable you forget it is even there. If you are looking for a ring that is unique without being showy or large, this is the perfect piece! Every piece is handcrafted using only the finest materials. Stacey rarely uses molds and each piece is slightly different so customers are getting a truly creative piece of jewelry. When it comes to the continuity of her collection, Stacey is a Gemini so things are continually changing. However, Stacey feels that she has found a groove and a certain look that is BRI HANA…and that seems to be consistent. For some of her new pieces, she is working on incorporating gorgeous gemstones and may have to deviate in choice of materials, but the BRI HANA sensibility remains the same. For an edgier look that adds just a touch of modern elegance, the Hana Ring is a breathtaking piece. This ring was made to be worn and admired as its 14k solid gold color and sheen is classic against the small shimmering diamonds accenting the tiny rectangles. This not your typical ring because it wraps beautifully around the finger looking like a piece of modern art.
From among the delightful pieces in her collection, the designs Stacey loves most are those that are inspired by the people in her life. The Bri and Hana Rings are named after her kids, because she loves them so much. The Lori Wire Bracelet is also very special as it was named after one of her closest friends. Stacey loves the Pia Necklace because it is uber-sexy and a unique and eye-catching piece that looks fantastic with almost anything. Unlike just a normal pendant on a chain, the Pia features a 14k gold chain that hangs 16 ½ inches long with a 9” tassel. The centerpiece is a thin 14k gold stick that is accented with a signature flower diamond. Stacey is the sole designer and creator of all pieces as everything from BRI HANA comes from her. She sketches her designs and takes them to her manufacturer, who assists in tweaking things out, but in the end, the designs are from her. Her wonderful assistant, Dee, helps her with mailings and anything else she might need while Stacey is also blessed with fantastic sales representatives and great publicists. The Ellen Bracelet is a feminine and pretty gold-plated wrap bracelet with a gorgeous labrodite slice in the center. The gold chain double wraps around the wrist for a secure fit while still looking delicate as the chains gracefully hang. The labrodite slice captures the complex colors of the stone while the gold border around it adds a finished, polished look.
Stacey’s natural talent for creating stunning pieces is evident in the Shoshanna Earrings, made of 14k solid gold and five diamonds, available in white or yellow gold. Reminiscent of beautiful feather earrings, these sway with elegant movement and shine brightly as the angles capture light and shadows. Extremely lightweight, the Shoshanna earrings are comfortable enough to wear day to night, to keep you looking stylish and lovely. Stacey really loves these Shoshanna earrings which are named after her Hebrew name. Her inspiration for her designs come from so many places as Stacey has a true artist’s mind. She explains, “I might be looking at a piece of wood and think, wow that would be cool as a necklace and then my mind starts going. I can’t say there is really any one way to come up with the designs - I just see items in my head.” Her last collection was designed after a small piece of wood with holes in it, which she just went wild with the idea. Actress Suzanne Sena from Onion News Network is a big fan and often wears BRI HANA chunky pieces on her television show while Gayle King and a number of celebrity stylists just discovering the line are saying good things. Flash forward five years and Stacey only sees BRI HANA growing and people getting to know and love the brand. She feels good knowing that people like her work and would love to eventually open up a storefront at some point and continue to be fortunate enough to grow her company.
Stacey is altruistic and giving as she donates to a multitude of causes including local schools, the Boys and Girls Club, City of Hope and St. Judes. BRI HANA Jewelry also donates a percentage of sales to Desert Breast Institute, a progressive facility focused on cutting edge science and research, as she lost her mother to breast cancer and that is a cause very close to her heart. Stacey considers herself the luckiest girl because jewelry is what she loves to do and her business is her hobby and her hobby is also her business. Her personal favorite designer is hands down Jacquie Aiche. She grew up knowing Jacquie, who is her cousin's best friend and simply adores everything Jacquie does with her great talent. Stacey and her husband own a horseback riding stable in Palm Springs where she spends a lot of time there helping with the business and riding, which she loves. Her best times are always with her family, her husband and kids – simply spending time with the people she loves. To her, a great meal and a glass of wine with great people around them is the perfect evening.
In parting, Stacey leaves with, “I am so grateful and honored to be doing what I love and to have so many people love the line. I put my heart and soul into BRI HANA Jewelry - it expresses who I am and my hope is to connect with others who may share that same passion of expression.” BRI HANA Jewelry is available at Moondance in Santa Monica as well as LTH Studio, a great boutique in Studio City, California.
