Soft and Natural Soybean Fabric Dresses Up Babies

Co-founders, David Lin and Amy Liang started Babysoy in May 2005 when David came across a newly developed fabric called soy-fiber.  They officially launched Babysoy collection in March 2006 and have been sprouting ever since.  Babysoy is the first company in the world to create soft and natural newborn and toddler clothing using soybean protein fiber.  A must have for all moms, this full line offers modern, eco, and organic basic bodysuits, one pieces, pants, socks, hoodies, blankets, and more for year round.   Their designs, especially their Soy Soft collection, are all about mixing and matching simple colors and graphics to give babies a cute and modern look.  Babysoy uses 50% soy and 50% cotton or organic cotton, making the fabrics extremely soft with excellent properties that are easy to wash and dry.  They also add new colors and design patterns each year to enrich their line.

BabysoyWe adore Babysoy’s adorable bodysuits which are both modern and playful.  The Short Sleeve Puff Bodysuit in eggplant is a feminine and darling onesie for your little angel.  Inspired by Snow White and Peter Pan, the subtle puff short sleeve and the baby collar bordered with soft pink is irresistible.  The bottom of this bodysuit also features the same soft pink in a thicker border.  The lightweight soyfiber provides ultimate comfort during warm days with its natural porous structure so they do not overheat.  The soy fabric Babysoy uses differentiates them from other children’s clothing lines.  “I don’t think there is another line using the same fabric as we are.  Soy fabric is eco-friendly because it is produced from waste of leftover pulp from soy-milk or oil productions.  Since it is a protein based fabric it is kind to our skin,” David says.  David and Amy started the company together, but Amy has since left to spend more time with her family.  The two co-founders now work with different graphic designers to design Babysoy.

Amy studied at Art Center and has always had a creative side to her.  While David’s family had been in the textile industry for 45 years, he never liked the business while growing up and vowed to never get involved in the textile market.  But in 2004, after a few failed ventures with friends, David was introduced to soy fabric and immediately amazed by its softness and smooth silkiness.   He found a tailor to make a few pieces of clothing and showed them to Amy.  Since Amy just had a baby, she often had a hard time finding good quality and affordable eco-friendly baby clothes.  As a result, the two of them came up with designs and used David’s family’s textile resources to turn this great fabric into a line of good quality baby clothes, thereby planting the seed for Babysoy.

BabysoyDavid shares his favorite pieces from Babysoy and is a huge fan of the Kimono Bodysuit and Comfy Pants.  Even though Babysoy has added many other styles to their collection, these were the two originals that have done well since day one.  The Kimono Bodysuit (shown here in Blossom) is a favorite among moms with its wrap-around style and easy side snaps.  No more struggling with a flaying baby in trying to pull a onesie over the head as you can simply wrap this around like a cardigan and Babysoysnap it up.  The adorable pastel pink trim along the bodysuit against the deep pink is too cute and the side ribbon bow adds the perfect touch.  The soyfiber provides comfort during cooler days with its superior warmth retention capabilities.  David shares, “We used to call the pants slip on pants, but many of my friends’ babies loved how soft and comfortable these pants are that they started calling it “comfy pants”.  So we changed the name and people loved it.”  Comfy Pants are a great piece because it is an easy mix and match pant that goes with any tops (especially the kimono bodysuit).

BabysoyDavid also likes their new Janey Baby Line, which has drawings of nine endangered animals that Dr. Jane Goodall dealt with.  From this new collection, we selected the Janey Baby Lounge Tee in Crane as it features a charming sketched crane stretching its glorious wings, which extends to the back of the shirt.  The pretty purple trim around the hem of the sleeves and the neckline adds a touch of color.  Pair this tee with a pair of Janey Baby Pants in Wineberry, the same shade of purple that trims the tee.  These solid, straight leg organic pants are great for quick and easy diaper changes with its elastic waist.  Not only are these animals really cute but all sale proceeds from this line will go towards benefitting the Jane Goodall Institute.  This is truly a win-win situation since babies will look super cute in these clothes while parents can feel good about helping save animals.

BabysoyAnother genius piece from Babysoy is the Blossom Year Round Reversible Hoodie (in blossom/chocolate) which won the distinguished iParenting Media Award.  This year round reversible hoodie is perfect to layer over tees for warm days or over one-pieces for cooler days.  The style cannot be beat with one side in chocolate brown and the other in blossom pink, making for easy pairing with various outfits. This superb hoodie Babysoyis made of double layered lightweight soyfiber to provide ultimate comfort with its natural porous structure.  The Kimono Tee is a great top that is also convenient with its easy side and front snaps for hassle free dressing.  An interior snap keeps the wrap in place while the front side bow adds a fashionable twist.  Made of lighweight soyfiber, it provides ultimate comfort during warmer days.  This breathe-able quality offers babies an abundance of alleviation from the heat.

BabysoyWhile they came up with many various unique names and fancy ideas for their line, they finally opted for the basics in naming the line Babysoy, which directly represents their products – baby layettes made of soybean fiber.  What better to pair those cute and creative tops, than with Babysoy’s Soy Soft Cozy Pant.  This is the ultimate lounging pant as it is luxuriously soft and cozy with its double layered slip, making it the perfect bottom to match their tops and bodysuits.  We love the soft elastic waist and the chic cargo side pocket pant that every child will love.  Another pant we recommend is the Slip-On Pant, Babysoywhich is true to its name with easy slip-on.  The elastic is flat against the body and never leaves marks on soft skin.  The solid colors are a true basic wardrobe staple for babies and great for coordinating.  Due to overwhelmingly popular demand, their most loved pant now goes up to 4T.   For your toddler, the perfect lounging set is the Tots Lounge Set, shown here in Cloud.  Made for 2T and up, these sets are made for playing and napping and all good things for a toddler.  The set comes with a soft long sleeve tee made with soy protein fiber and organic cotton with a Flyaway Balloon imprint design and complimenting colored pants.  A casual outfit for both a boy or girl to wear around the house that will look good and feel even better.

BabysoyTo complete your baby’s outfit, top it off with a Duo-Styles Signature Hat as this soft and stretchy hat offers two different styles of wearing.  First, it can be worn with the rabbit ears tied into two individual knots or tied together to for a fun look.  Also, it is good to know that the hat doubles as an emergency chew toy for teething little ones.  In the coming years, Babysoy will continue their leadership in providing soy fiber baby clothes to the market while adding other eco-friendly fabrics to their line to provide their customers with even more options.  They hope that in five years Babysoy will become one of the leading providers of high quality and affordable eco-friendly baby clothes.  Babysoy is sold nationwide, but can especially be found at bigger online and catalog stores like Land of Nod,, and as it is extremely easy to find Babysoy online.  To shop Babysoy or search their store locator for a brick and mortar store, visit
