Heather Gardner Jewelry

A Jewel in Malibu Dazzles with Her California Touch

Heather Gardner JewelryHeather Gardner Jewelry is unique from other jewelry designs because her pieces are trend setting, yet can be worn beyond seasonal fashion trends.  Designer and Founder, Heather Gardner, says, “It is the perfect collection for women to invest in, as it will never look or feel outdated and the pieces can be worn for years.  I specialize in creating simple, yet elegant designs that can be layered together or worn alone and are versatile enough to wear down to the beach and later in the evening with your favorite skinny jeans, boots, and tank.”  Heather Gardner Jewelry is best described as Singer22.com says, “A line of edgy and elegant pieces that can be added to any outfit to make it truly fierce.” A Santa Barbara blog says, “Gardner takes a little piece of the California sun and infuses it into every design she makes.”  Heather always knew she would be a stay-at-home-mom, so owning a jewelry company was the perfect solution to working at home while still being with her son all day.  She gave up her teaching career in 2008 and now enjoys the success of her jewelry business in her home studio while being able to participate in all the intimate moments of her son’s growth and development.

During her early years in high school and college, Heather loved venturing to bead stores up and down the California coast.  Heather graduated with a Social Sciences degree from Point Loma Nazarene College and obtained a Teaching Credential from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.  Even during the nine years she taught Modern World History at Malibu High School, she would design her own jewelry or modify pieces given to her as gifts since she never really loved the designs in stores.  In spring 2006, Heather and her husband were hosting a dinner party and she was wearing one of the pieces she had designed.  Her friend, Jennifer Smith-Hale, of C and Santa Barbara Magazines, loved her necklace and suggested that Heather invest some time and money into exploring a new venture.  “Summer vacation was coming soon, and I was aware of some creative energy needing to be expressed over the last few years, so I purchased some materials, did some on-line research, and began to design my line,” she says.  Heather would return home from the beach and sit at her picnic table as the sand dried on her toes and design for hours.  A year later, she was in some of the hottest boutiques in California; like Planet Blue in Malibu and Wendy Foster in Santa Barbara.

Heather Gardner JewelryHeather Gardner Jewelry currently features five fabulous collections; Bohemian, Bold, Elegance, Crystal and Bridal.  One of the easiest to wear and popular pieces from the Bohemian Collection is the Boho Tusk Necklace, available in tortoise, ivory color, or black.  The tusks are made of bone and the gold-filled chain is available in 28” and 36.”  A favorite of starlets Vanessa Hudgens and others, this necklace has been spotted with dresses, jeans and just about anything.  Its simplicity is its versatility as this necklace can easily be slipped over anything and looks fabulous layered with other necklaces like the Ethiopian Layer Necklaces or Signature Swarovski Crystal Necklaces.  Meant to be worn long, this boho tusk is a timeless icon that will not go out of style.  Heather shares some of her favorites from this collection, as loves the Signature Feather Earrings and Boho Tusk Earrings in the 3-inch chain and tortoise tusk.  She adds, “I wear those everyday.  I am always putting on Ethiopian layers with favorite necklaces that I wear, from my Shark Teeth Necklaces to my Tibetan Horn Necklaces.”

Heather Gardner JewelryHer next most popular item is the Five Layer Ethiopian Necklace from the Bohemian Collection.  The rustic base gold-filled or sterling silver metal and glimmering strand of crystals create an elegant bohemian look that suits any occasion.  An instant hit since the beginning, this layered necklaces provide effortless style and sass as it was featured on numerous models and photographs in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, its calendar and website.  The bohemian essence of this necklace makes it ideal to put over bathing suit tops for that beach bombshell look.  Throwing this over a simple tee can dress the entire outfit up and bring it to a whole new level as this necklace is available in silver or gold in combination with alabaster, topaz, smoky quartz, turquoise, jet black, clear CZ and more.  With the layers already cleverly set in this necklace by a leather wrap at the nape, you won’t have to worry about figuring out how to layer a bunch of necklaces from a pile – just throw on and walk out the door.  A genuine international piece of art as the base metal is imported from Ethiopia and Swarovski crystal from Austria.

For as long as Heather can remember, she has always been creative as she sang publicly and wrote poetry and songs since middle school.  “I still regularly write, sing, and play guitar.  I have also enjoyed photography, sewing, interior and graphic design throughout phases of my life,” she adds.  For ideas, Heather usually spends a few days looking through major domestic and international fashion magazines and marking anything that speaks to her.  The images go into a folder or up on a wall in her studio that becomes part of her inspiration board.  She is also inspired when she visits her suppliers and looks through boxes and boxes of different stones.  Heather says, “Whatever makes an impression, I grab and bring back to my studio and then I begin to craft various designs.”  She has also always been drawn to charming cafes and coffee shops where she can spend time designing, reflecting on life, and enjoying the scenery.  Heather is the sole designer, but constantly has discussions about designs with various friends who either own fashion magazines or are interior designers or accessory designers. She finds it keeps her updated and inspired.  Heather also has a team of women working in her studio that are amazing and extremely time efficient, which she could not exist without them.

Heather Gardner JewelryInterestingly enough, Heather became a jewelry designer because she was unsatisfied with the designs in the marketplace.  She would often purchase jewelry and change it around or design her own in bead stores in Venice Beach.  “So, I would have to say that my own designs have become my favorite and that is all I wear,” Heather says.  She loves the leather cuffs by Kendall Conrad and wore one of her pieces everyday until she began designing her own leather cuffs. Celebrities are also big followers of Heather Gardner Jewelry, including beauties like Vanessa Hudgens, Kristin Stewart, Kourtney Kardashian, Brooklyn Decker, Olivia Wilde, Christina Applegate, Frieda Pinto, and more.  For the future, Heather sees her company continuing to have the success that it has had since its beginnings in 2006.  She shares, “I love working with the resorts, so I plan to have many more accounts, and maybe one major, like Nordstroms that I work with.  However, I prefer to work with localized boutiques and resorts.”  In terms of challenges as a designer, hers is not having enough time to everything.  While she would love to spend everyday designing and researching, there is much more to running a business.  Also, as a full-time mom to a three-year old boy and planning for another, she loves being at home with her children as they grow.  Just like every other working mom, Heather says, “there is the challenge to keep a proper balance between motherhood and entrepreneurship.”

Her collection evolves three to four times a year while keeping styles that people are still buying, along with her newer pieces.  Heather does not believe in getting rid of a style if there is a demand for it in the marketplace just because there is a new fashion season.  “I strive to design jewelry that lasts beyond trends and most of my designs have been selling well for a few years,” she adds.  Heather also gives back to the world as she donates 10% of all earnings to various humanitarian groups annually like World Vision, Operation Smile, Surfaid International, and Wonderfully Made.  Heather Gardner Jewelry also participates in events where they donate 20% of sales to the charity that the event is for.  Heather enjoys traveling and every place she has visited has impacted her life.  Living in Uganda opened her eyes to global poverty and the realities of what many people face in developing countries.  Italy and France deepened her love for history, art, farmer’s markets, and living life to the fullest.  Heather works in bringing all of those global influences into every aspect of her life, especially jewelry design.

Heather Gardner JewelryFrom the Bold collection, we selected the Double Chain Gold Wrapped Geode Necklace in tan as an Editor’s Pick because it is a classic and feminine piece that captures the natural beauty of Mother Nature.  As one of her bestsellers from this collection, the gorgeous cut of the geode showcased in 24k gold-fill edging along the gold-plated double Victorian necklace is stunning and sure to receive compliments wherever you go.  The geode slice necklace was also featured in Lucky magazine.  Measuring 40” in length, this lengthy necklace shines when worn over a long tunic or sweater to showcase its beauty.  The 24k gold-filled double chain glistens as it Heather Gardner Jewelrycatches the light and makes this a classic piece for ages to come.  Geode slices are each unique in color and shape with natural variances and is also available in a blue/black color combination.
Heather personally adores the Fossil and Arrowhead Necklaces layered with a Swarovski Crystal Layer or Ethiopian Layer necklace.  In addition, she always has either a 2” or 3” Cali Fringe Cuff on since it’s the perfect piece to complete any outfit and she always receives compliments on them.  The leather on this cuff is not too thick, making it ideal for all weather conditions – rain or shine!

Heather Gardner JewelryFrom the Elegance Collection, Heather loves her new black diamond designs such as the Sundial Diamond Bracelet in brown or black leather, which she wears daily.  The bracelet comes in black or chocolate leather while the black diamonds are set in a gold-over silver setting.  The bracelet is easily adjustable so it can be tightened to stay on the wrist in the sweet spot next to wrist bone.  The pieces in this collection are about combining natural earth tones and feature crystal rosary and cross necklaces, gemstone and gold strand bracelets and more.  The Crystal Collection has its own bestseller, the Swarovski Crystal Layer Necklace.  Popular because of their versatility, they can be worn long, double wrapped or even wrapped around the wrist as a bracelet.  The crystals are gold or rhodium plated and available in a wide option of colors.  Heather Gardner Jewelry also has an exclusive Bridal Collection with something to offer every bride which is recommended for fancier occasions.  Her current favorite are the Boho Chic Crystal Earrings which are somewhat edgy but still glamorous as three Swarovski crystals teardrops dangle from a gold-fill filigree.

Heather is simply a California beach girl because she is often at the beach throughout the week in her spare time.  Her favorites are the beaches of Point Dume, where she can relax, play with her family on the beach, surf or trail run.  She shares, “Experiencing the ocean’s power and vitality keeps me feeling alive and thankful for all that I have been given.”  At the same time, Heather is also a mountain girl who loves hiking trails for exploring and exercising, which has some of the most beautiful views and natural elements that constantly inspire her to create jewelry reflecting the beauty she sees in those places.  Many of the crystal colors and stones in her jewelry designs are directly related to the natural palate that she sees in the environment.  To unwind, Heather enjoys going out, being with friends over a good meal or listening to amazing live music.  She loves to just hang, socialize and take everything in.  In parting Heather advises, “Don’t let our culture dictate what true beauty is… being beautiful is more that having the perfect body, hair, and skin.  True beauty begins on the inside and lasts much longer.  Pursue true beauty!”  Heather Gardner Jewelry is available on celebrity-fashion websites such as The Trend Boutique, Amazon, Couture Candy and at luxury resort and spas like Hotel del Coronado, W Hotels, and Atlantis in the Bahamas.  To view the full collection, visit heathergardner.com.
