Margo Morrison New York

Margo Morrison New York Jewelry

Jewelry That Sings of Color, Texture, and Shape

Margo Morrison New York JewelryMargo Morrison is the woman behind Margo Morrison New York, a respectable and familiar designer amongst celebrity stars and the public.  Margo’s inspiration behind her collection was her search for jewelry that was not overpowering and which possessed a light, airy feeling to it that was beautiful and affordable.  She decided to create her own line in 2003 when she did not see anything else in the marketplace like what she imagined.  Margo shares, “My jewelry is like beautiful music; it plays off of negative and positive space and combines color, texture, and shape.  I work with semi-precious stones and pearls and knot them on beige nylon cord, so when you’re wearing my necklace, the cord disappears and the necklace looks as if it is floating.”  She also uses different shades of the same color stone or complementary colors, along with Swarovski crystals in a very tasteful way, so that her jewelry is very easy to wear for women of all ages.

“I believe I was born creative,” Margo says, as she recalls drawing at a very early age and studying classical piano from the age of seven to twenty-three.  She even sang in choirs all through school and dabbled in acting.  Margo attended Tulane University in New Orleans for her first two years and later finished at the University of Florida.  She studied music in college but in the end, majored in Public Relations and Journalism with a double minor in music and speech pathology.  She was blessed to grow up in a very cultured home as her parents took Margo and her siblings to museums, the opera, and classical concerts when they were all very young.  As children, they were exposed to culture and beautiful things at an early age.

Margo Morrison New York JewelryOne of her most popular pieces and understandably so is the White Freshwater Pearl Dangle Short Lariat.  This necklace is so unbelievably feminine and light and it is both elegant and simple.  Delicate white freshwater pearls and Swarovski crystals dangle from a nylon cord fashioned into a Y shaped lariat for a romantic look.  This is often a beloved bridal piece or a sentimental keepsake for its timeless style and appeal.  When asked what her favorite pieces were, it was as if asking a mother which of her children she favored most.  Margo loves all of her pieces but is partial to aquamarine because it is her birthstone and labradorite because it looks as if it were lit from within.  She is also constantly enamored with shapes and colors of stones and her artistic ability in bringing forth the very most from each stone is amazing.

Margo Morrison New York JewelryMargo Morrison is well known and adored in the film and fashion industry as Blake Lively has been a huge fan and enjoys layering many pieces.  Julianne Moore favors the sky blue turquoise pieces while Eva Longoria loves the smoky quartz and champagne quartz necklaces.  As for how she comes up with ideas for designs, Margo usually sees the necklace while she is choosing the stones.  Since she cannot draw to save her life, she either lays out the pattern or imagines it in her head.  Luckily, Margo has a small group of amazing artisans who understand her imagination and can help put her ideas into a finished piece.  Margo describes her style of jewelry as “easy to wear, day into evening, blue jeans to black tie, classic with a contemporary twist, ethereal, tasteful, elegant and designs that transcend age.”  She has sixteen year olds who love her pieces and women well into their eighties who also enjoy her jewelry.

Margo Morrison New York JewelryAnother one of her most popular pieces which is also an Editor’s Pick is the Faceted Chrysoprase Teardrop Necklace (long) for its versatility and breathtaking color.  This 35” necklace can be worn long as a single necklace or double layered and looks great with jeans, a suit, or a cocktail dress.  The bright and vibrant sea foam green of chrysoprase Margo Morrison New York Jewelryteardrops looks great on any skin tone and is eye catching against both light and dark colors.  Julia Roberts wears her own version, a triple strand chrysoprase necklace that her husband got her at ABC Carpet & Home in New York City.  Debra Messing also loves layering Margo’s chrysoprase pieces in a multitude of lengths and varieties.  We selected this piece simply because it resonated with pure beauty and it no wonder this is a favorite of Julia Roberts and Debra Messing as this is a keepsake for generations to come.

Lucky to have traveled throughout the world, Margo loved Bermuda for its exquisite colors of the ocean and Japan, where the women have the most incredible, unique style that cannot be copied elsewhere.  She loves South Africa, where her father lives, and how the white clouds kiss the mountaintops while the colors of the rocks and water are mesmerizing.  In Parrot Key, she recalls staring at the exquisite colors of the oceans for many hours.

Margo Morrison New York JewelryMargo carries her core collection each season which showcases her best sellers while adding new designs three times a year for her trade shows. Her 2010 spring collection features bold, bright, colorful, and chunky pieces that display a beautiful spectrum of colors.  The Natural Turquoise and Swarovski Crystal Multi-Layer Necklace is a Margo Morrison New York Jewelrytreasure to behold as it features a natural turquoise five-strand necklace adorned with small Swarovski crystals on a nylon cord.  This necklace is between 16” – 20” in length and each strand exhibits the natural turquoise in all of its glory.  Each stone is individual from its blend of blue and dark brown hues to earthy lines.  This necklace is comprised of natural turquoise, natural coral, citrine, chrysoprase, and more along a nylon cord.  If you are looking for a necklace that showcases a rainbow of colors, this necklace is the perfect spring to summer accessory as it can be paired with anything.

Margo Morrison is sold at specialty boutiques worldwide and at select department stores.  She hopes to expand her company into many new markets in the future, while also adapting to the fashion of the times and staying true to her design ethics.  In her free time, Margo enjoys getting out of New York City to see trees and mountains.  But she also likes walking around Soho, NoLita and the West Village and visiting museums and galleries.  Her personal favorite jewelry designs include the great classic works of Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Bulgari.  Margo shares, “It is not only a great pleasure and joy for me to design my line of jewelry, it is also extremely satisfying to know that my customers really love my jewelry and enjoy wearing it.”   For her complete and current collection, visit her website and online store
