Meet Tamre Sutphen, the sole creator and designer of Shi Shu Style, a hand-woven blanket line for both baby and home that is made 100% from cotton and bamboo yarn which will undoubtedly change your life. Even better is the detailed pattern that is evident from having these blankets loomed by hand as they are also works of art.

Tamre’s passion behind her line blossomed after her own personal experience with her first child. After her little son developed a rash, she wrapped him up in one of the soft and fluffy blankets she had to help soothe his irritated skin. But rather than comforting her baby, the blanket had an opposite effect as his rash worsened and he continued to get warmer and warmer. To her dismay, she realized his blanket was made of polyester, a non-breathable fabric, which contributed to his overheating and rash. At that moment, Tamre made it her mission to design a 100% natural baby blanket. Her son is now five years old and her business is stronger than ever.

Shi Shu Style The Shi Shu Baby line offers your choice of baby blankets and snugglers in five adorable colors; baby blue, baby pink, lemon yellow, celedon green, and lavender. The Shi Shu Baby Blanket measures 30” x 40” with enough room to generously wrap your baby in or line their stroller. While all the colors are heavenly, the celedon green is a great neutral that works for both a boy or girl. Handwoven with 60% cotton and 40% bamboo, the blanket is adorned with a 100% bamboo sateen trim. The soft green against the white background displaying their signature diamond weave design is serene and fresh, while the solid green border livens it up with a pop of color. Your little one can also have his or her own “blankie” that will be their Shi Shu Style favorite as years go by. The Shi Shu Baby Snuggler is a mini version of the baby blanket that your child can call their own. Measuring 16” x 16” this snuggler is just the right size for your toddler to carry around and cozy up to seven days a week. We love the lavender baby snuggler as it is perfectly feminine for a little girl and a nice change from the traditional pink route. The story behind how Tamre came up with Shi Shu Style’s signature design print is a fascinating and delightful journey. While Tamre was very familiar with mass production and manufacturing in China, when she heard about how India focused more on handicrafts and using natural fibers rather than mass production, she traveled there to begin her search. She lived with a family known through a friend and they took her to different regions of Northern India to see the various ways fabrics were made. Upon visiting a village north of Delhi that specialized in hand-loomed blankets and rugs, Tamre started working on different designs and fabric content. After much trial and error, she finally came up with Shi Shu Style’s signature and copyrighted diamond design weave.

Shi Shu Style Just as much as we love her baby line, we also adore the Shi Shu Home line made for adults. After making such high-quality baby blankets, Tamre realized she would enjoy one for herself as well. So Shi Shu Home was born with their classic weave throws (50” x 60”) becoming a favorite for moms, dads, and adults everywhere. Also made of the same cotton and bamboo blend as the baby blankets, these Shi Shu Home Classic Throws are bordered with a more sophisticated and grown up trim of fringe yarn, while keeping its 100% natural essence. They are available in three easy to match shades of classic, stone, and Malibu coast. Our Editor’s Pick selected the home classic hue for its neutral shade of taupe that matches and compliments most room settings and decor. Tamre has always had a creative side as she deeply enjoys traveling the world to find new things to create and to learn how things are created. She studied Design and Merchandising at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles. In addition to her educational pursuit of the design industry, she has also been involved in the toy design and manufacturing business for over twenty years. Tamre’s favorite items from her line are the Lavender Baby Blanket as she loves its soft and feminine color and the Home Classic throw, because it is perfect for curling up on the couch at night.
