Luxurious Handbags Both Edgy and Lux

TreesjeLaunched in 2005, Treesje is a complete dual collaboration between Laura Darrah and Sheila Nazarian as they both design and run operations side by side.  Treesje handbags are described as “Edgy and Lux” as their bags have a very expensive feel to them, yet appeal to young, edgy contemporary shoppers.  Laura and Sheila began their friendship after meeting at a mutual friend’s wedding as the bridesmaids and realized their shared desire in creating their own handbag line.  After talking to each other and growing closer, they decided to pursue their dream of one day owning and designing a handbag line by venturing to work together.  Their line “Treesje” was named after the bride’s middle name because that marked the beginning of their business venture together.

They both attended University of San Diego. Sheila earned a degree in Fine Arts with an emphasis in Oil Painting and Graphic Design as art has always been her passion since she was young.  Laura holds a Masters Degree in Business. While Laura has also always held a passion for art because of her innate creative side, she did not pursue design until after graduating college.  The designers share, “We always pay attention to fine details on our handbags and provide a very lux but edgy look.  We spend a great amount of time searching for new, innovative leathers to include in our collection to set us apart from other handbags on the market today.”

TreesjeLaura and Sheila feel extremely lucky to have a great celebrity fan base.  A few celebrities that have been spotted wearing Treesje include: Lindsay Lohan, Fergie, Heidi Klum, Katherine Heigl, AnnaLynne McCord, Eva Longoria, Blake Lively, Jessica Szohr, and Courteney Cox.
The designers share a few of their favorites.  They love the Jovi Handbag because it was one of their first cross-body styles and is the perfect size for everyone.  “The leather and hardware used on the Jovi are always trendy and fun, which makes it the perfect everyday bag.”   We also selected the Jovi as an Editor’s Pick for its amazing versatility and modern glam.  The bag easily converts from day to night with its removable long strap, transforming it into a classy clutch.  Available in various shades of leather, the handbag is envelope shaped with two diagonal zipper openings and lined with pyramid studs (gold or gunmetal).

Traveling has ultimately provided Laura and Sheila with inspiration for their designs.  They found Bali was most influential in the beginning because it was where they first traveled together and became inspired by the intricate beading that was done on handbags there. Presently, Italy has become a large influential factor in their designs because of their travels there for leather trade shows.  The handbag designers that provide the greatest inspiration for the Treesje line are Chanel, Miu Miu, and Chloe.  They enjoy experimenting with different mediums and materials for their line, such as using skins to create texture or an artsy finish to their handbags or designing their own hardware of shiny gold or gunmetal finish.  Their favorite lamb leathers to use are shiny or very distressed finishes.  Treesje has recently started introducing matte leathers in their collection.

TreesjeAlso an Editor’s Pick is the Avalon handbag for its perfect blend of girly and practical.  It is such a classic Treesje satchel shape which has become an all time favorite of every Treesje customer. Its unique shape continues to attract and the designers love to bring back this style in different leathers each year.  Updated with waxy leathers, feminine ruching detail and a detachable shoulder strap, this work to weekender bag is both feminine and large enough to hold everything you need.  The interiors are full lined with two cell phone or PDA holders, a key hook and a zipper pocket.  The Avalon will do your organizing for you.  The Charlie is also one of the designers’ favorite handbags because it has such a unique, original shape and always garners attention when worn out.

Treesje features one or two collections containing their classic styles that are revamped every season with different hardware of leather colors.  They keep it fresh by introducing brand new collections at least four times a year.  One thing that has greatly affected both of their lives recently is they both become new mothers within the last year.  The change in their personal lives contributed to changing their designs as they now view things through a much larger scope and experiment more with their collections.

TreesjeTreesje is sold at many stores worldwide, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Kitson.  Laura and Sheila plan to expand their collection to other leather accessories such as belts, wallets, and other small leather goods.  “Although you never know what the future holds, we would love to see ourselves one day expanding the Treesje brand into the clothing world,” they share.  Laura and Sheila truly love their work and work product.  “Design has been such a huge passion of ours since a young age.  It just shows that you should always follow what you love.  We love what we do and look forward to growing as a company.”  To shop and view their fabulous collection of handbags, clutches, and other goods, visit
